Snow Day #100

Snow day! Well, Snow Day # 10 or so. It snows all the time here. All. The. Time. This time, we have gotten 15” of snow so far and it is still snowing and sleeting off and on. We are in a state of emergency, here. Both of our workplaces were shut down today due to the dangerous weather and travel conditions. There are people without electricity, people stranded, people unsuccessfully trying to dig their ways out to the main roads to get to work.

But us? We’re just having a fun day off together!

We were both really hoping to get enough snow to have a day off of work together, so I kept waking up and looking out the window all night. I felt like a kid again. Around 4:00am, I heard what I thought was a chainsaw outside. Turned out to be someone running a snow blower down our neighborhood sidewalks. At 4:00am. For an hour. I’m not sure how that was productive because the snowfall was at its heaviest then, and it has been redone a few times since then, but I can’t complain because in our old neighborhood it wouldn’t have been done for days. I had a hard time falling asleep again. Then, at 7:00am, I got a text message from our operations manager at work—snow day! Yay! Commence fun-filled snow day.

We realized we were down to one roll of toilet paper. Oh no! So, we marched up to Walgreens in the snow. That was such a hard workout. I hate exercise. Then we came back and played with Maddie in the snow for a little while. We don’t have proper snow clothes or snow boots because we never had such a snowy winter in Virginia and when we moved up to Maryland last year, we only had a few pitiful snowfalls that melted quickly. So, I’ve been outside in skinny jeans, wedge-heel knee boots, a knitted hat that has seen better days, and a blindingly hot pink Columbia ski jacket. (PS- the snow was higher than my boots!) Aaron doesn’t have boots at all, so he had to wear sneakers with his jeans tucked into knee socks. He also doesn’t have gloves because he always loses them. We were quite the fashionable duo

The snow was too high for her to run through, so she had to jump around.

Faceplant.

"Get up and play with meeee!"

Aaron just laid in the snow and let Maddie run around him.

Maddie loves the snow!  =)

I love having a dog. She is so much fun!

Then, we watched Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince and pigged out on junk food…. And now we still have half the day left to enjoy. How have you spent your snow day?
