Aaaaah! The Hunger Games! I am just eating up this book (pun not intentional, but awesome)! I try not to get carried away by trendy fiction-turned-movie series because, as I learned with Twilight, I finish the books within a few weeks and then don't care anymore by the time the movies come out. Not that the Twilight movies were really worth caring about. Poor adaptations of the books. Poor acting. Poor musical choices. Poor effort on behalf of the directors to make each movie uniquely theirs (ever hear of uniformity?). As for the Twilight books, I didn't find myself particularly spellbound. I only kept reading them because it was the trendy thing to do, and I figured if that many people were absolutely raving about them, the surely must be wonderful. Eh. They were so-so. I felt like the author should have whipped out a thesaurus and described Edward in different ways than "glittery" and "stone cold". I also felt like some parts were just longwinded. I digress...
I first heard of The Hunger Games when I saw a trailer at the movie theater. I was intrigued. Luckily, that was a week before it opened, so I didn't have to wait long! =) After the movie, Aaron loaded all three books in the series onto my Nook and apparently forgot to tell me this until about two weeks ago.
The first few chapters were a little slow and hard to delve into, but I knew from the movie that it would pick up, so I stuck with it. Oh my gosh! To tell you how much I love this book, let me describe last evening. I decided to lay down in bed around 10pm and read for a little bit. I figured I'd read for about 20 minutes and then fall asleep, like usual.... Around midnight (haha), my Nook battery warning came on. I grabbed the charger and hooked up, but the cord wasn't long enough to reach my bed. I decided to just sit crosslegged on the floor and finish the chapter. Around 1:30am (another laugh), Aaron rolled over and complained that my lamp was too bright. Dern. Fortunately, I have a little book light attached to my Nook, so I used that. Around 2:00am, I was completely wired and awake. I just wanted to finish my book. However, I had sixty pages left and I knew I'd be dragging at work today. I called it a night. Today I went home for my lunch break and grabbed my Nook, which had charged all night and all day. Go figure, I find out that the charger is damaged and had not charged my Nook at all. It wouldn't even turn on. Bummer! Fortunately, Aaron is on a quest to find a new charger today and I will get to finish my book tonight! =)
And for one last laugh: I found Hunger Games on Google Books, but it only showed the first half of the book. Poo! Tonight, tonight!
