Oh the heat! YUCK! I live in Virginia, where hundreds of thousands of people, including my entire city, are without power. It's 105 degrees and they have no air conditioning, no refrigeration for cold beverages, no electricity to run ceiling fans, no lights or alarm clocks to get ready for work, no way to wash laundry. Last night, a tree fell through my brother's car.
Fortunately, I am out of town! =) I am visiting family in Tennessee and it's 105 degrees outside, but we have air conditioning and things to do. I drove here last night and I must have just missed the storm. I had stopped in Bristol to get a coffee, and 30 minutes later, I heard an announcement on the radio that Bristol was completely without power.
The scariest part was not being able to get ahold of my husband or my brother when they had that derecho last night (I learned a new word). Thankfully, they're fine! Just hot! There are a handful of places running on generators so they're hanging out at our alma mater.
I have been thinking of things to do to stay cool in this heat (especially if your power is out):
-Go swimming at a pool or lake.
-Hang blankets over your windows to keep out sunlight, which would just create heat.
-Buy a cooler and fill it with ice. Store popsicles and bottled waters in there.
-Take a cold shower (it's not like you can take a warm one!).
-Hang out at a store, mall, or hospital where there is electricity.
-Go to the movies. Cold, dark theater sounds nice!
-Keep your car windows rolled down if you have to park outside. Leaving the windows up will make your car roasting hot.
Is your power out? If so, have you heard when it will be back on?
What are you doing to stay cool?
